A light pendant lamp
The Formakami is a pendant lamp that both gives light and is light: in fact, it is made of paper. Designer Jaime Hayon drew his inspiration for this pendant lamp from traditional Oriental lanterns, made from translucent rice paper. He has transformed the classic design into a completely handmade pendant lamp that fits in every household.
Message of hope
The rice paper fixture creates a warm glow of light, similar to that created by traditional Oriental lanterns. However, Hayon has given a modern twist to the Formakami by leaving its lampshade open from underneath. In this way, the light cast is more direct and the design has a contemporary look. The designer also wants to convey a message through his design. In certain cultures, light is thought to dispel the forces of darkness and create hope. Through the large opening below the lampshade, the designer wants to symbolically offer more light - and therefore more hope - to people all over the world.
Paper, textile and oak
The exterior of this wonderful pendant lamp has been designed with great care, down to the finest detail. The paper ivory-white lampshade is finished with oak accents and a textile cord.
